The Department of Performing Arts in Emerson College’s School of the Arts offers an on-campus graduate program in Theatre Education and Applied Theatre with two degree options: a Master of Arts (MA) and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA). Both options include the opportunity to choose between two tracks of study: Theatre Education and Applied Theatre. The on-campus MA in Theatre Education and Applied Theatre is designed for students who want to work at the intersection of education and theatre. Many of our graduates have gone on to become theatre teachers, community educators, directors, and playwrights, while others have gone on to pursue doctoral degrees.

Master of Fine Arts in Theatre Education and Applied Theatre

Completion of the on-campus MFA in Theatre Education and Applied Theatre program opens the door to teaching full-time in colleges and universities for those interested in a career in higher education. The opportunity to work as a teaching assistant in a variety of courses during the MFA program offers valuable experience and resumé credentials that facilitate a successful transition into teaching theatre courses in post-secondary education.
